February 27 Observatory Open House / Public Star Night
Our guest speaker this month is Dr. Michael Prochoda MD, an avid astronomer and member of the EVAS. Michael’s has offered to tell us a little bit about the Orion constellation. It would be good timing since Orion is a highlight in the night skies right now. Orion is a prominent Constellation located on the Celestial equator and visible throughout the world. It is one of the most conspicuous and recognizable constellations in the night sky. It was named after a hunter in Greek mythology. Its brightest stars are Rigel and Betelgeuse, a blue-white and a red supergiant, respectively.
